I was just dropping off my kid…

He was at GSU and living at the top of Hill Street in Grant Park. Wife & I dropped him off after a Sunday dinner and I rolled down to the corner of Augusta & Cherokee where I noticed a For Lease sign in this cute corner shop.

During the pandemic, I’d been baking for Jason at the wonderful Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur. It reminded me of how much I enjoyed making food and serving folks. I continued baking at home for neighbors and friends and considered being a cottage baker. That’s when I saw the space that is now Howdy ATL. Both kids said it’d be “fun adventure” to open a bakery cafe.

"Howdy!" is what my Grandaddy Sharkey used to say a lot and I've always thought it is the most welcoming word to share with others. Howdy is a place and a feeling. Hopefully, it's a welcoming family-kinda place where all feel at home. I love being a space for the community to gather and connect.

What makes us special? Well, I believe we can all do better for each other and our planet. That’s why we limit the amount of plastic we use, recycle as much as we can, and make as much from scratch as possible. We serve what we’d want to feed to our own kids.

Our coffee is ORGANIC & FAIR TRADE and comes from a collaborative group of Mayan farmers in northern Mexico who roast Capeltic, as well as from amazing farmers that Cafe Campesino in Americus, GA represents. Each cup you buy helps a farmer keep their land and continue a way of life.

We hope you’ll stop by if you live in Grant Park, Summerhill, Chosewood Park, or when in Atlanta visiting Zoo Atlanta. See you in the morning! boyd
